A small pocket book that I have on Fungi and Mushrooms identifies the mushroom in the image above as a Turkey Tail (Trametes Coriolus Versicolor) mushroom. I photographed it growing on a dead tree near to my home.

The damaged storage jars in the remains of a shop in the Roman City of Herculaneum that was destroyed in 79 AD by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
